Food Styling & Photography – סדנת צילום אוכל

We did it!

We had two fabulous courses – spread over two Fridays – for food, cooking and styling with Dan Lev, Photographer and Dalit Russo, Stylist and Anne Kleinberg – talker and host!

First course, starting at 10 am, consisted of a brief introduction by Anne stressing what good and bad photos are all about. Examples were given of the very worst photos, and a discussion was held regarding what’s needed for cookbook photography. Then Dan took over and offered his very professional perspective on proper photography: the techniques, lighting, propping, camera usage, etc.

Next we prepared ingredients, each participant took a few, along with plates, cutlery, and other props and got busy with shooting! Angles, zooming, backgrounds, garnishes, did it all!

After a wonderful lunch, prepared by Dan and enjoyed al fresco overlooking the Caesarea golf course, we went back inside for the review session of the photos. Dan uploaded each participant’s best photos onto his laptop and spoke about the great, the good, and the less than good… We sadly sad goodbye by late afternoon.

Next session included Dalit Russo, well-known stylist. We started again with a slide presentation, focusing on food styling – talking about props, set-ups, techniques for editorial, commercial and book photography. Then we prepared food for shooting – this time full courses rather than ingredients only, and each participant took his or her favorite. After propping and shooting, everyone switched and took another plate to shoot, until all of the set-ups were used. Again lunch, which this time included the celebration of TWO birthdays, and then the review session. Oh, there was also a bit of swimming enjoyed!

We finally wrapped it all up by 5pm, with promises to get together again for another course.

Enjoy these photos by these very talented photographers!

Looks like you all had a fabulous time. Hopefully I’ll buy a car and get the old one fixed so I can get myself over there soon!
